This expert in water quality has 15+ years of experience in Legionella Risk Management and 40+ years experience total in engineering related functions. He obtained his BS in Marine Engineering at the US Merchant Marine Academy. He is a member of APIC, ASPE, ASHRAE, ASHRM, AWT and AWWA. He has authored 2 books, coauthored 2 peer review papers with CDC, published numerous articles in many journals and magazines and is currently the President of a waterborne pathogen risk management company.

This highly qualified expert has over 30 years of experience working in the Chesapeake Bay watershed with specialties in regulation, environmental assessment and watershed studies, advocacy, compliance, permitting, feasibility studies, nonpoint source pollutant management, wetland and stream mitigation, and water quality monitoring. He earned his BS in biology, chemistry, and environmental science from the University of Tampa and holds a certification as an environmental professional. He is very active in his field as a member of multiple professional societies including the International Water Association, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, the Society of Ecological Restoration, the Society of Wetland Scientists, and the Association of Wetland Managers. In addition, this expert has published multiple times in Build Magazine and is an ongoing contributor to Straughan Environmental, Inc. blog. Formerly, he has held many positions throughout his career including natural resources biologist, environmental specialist, and regional chief of the wetlands and waterways program for the Maryland Department of the Environment. He then served as a natural resources planner at the Chesapeake Bay Critical Areas Commission and then became the director of environmental services for both Soltesz, Inc. and Whitman Requart & Associates, LLP. He is currently the principal of his own environmental consulting firm out of Maryland.
