FAQs for Biomechanical Expert Witnesses
What is the role of a biomechanical expert witness?
A biomechanical expert witness analyzes how forces cause injuries and explains human movement in accidents. They assist by reviewing records, reconstructing events, and testifying to clarify complex injury issues.
In what case types can a biomechanical expert witness provide valuable insights?
A biomechanical expert witness provides valuable insights in auto accidents, slip and falls, workplace injuries, sports injuries, product liability, and medical malpractice cases.
How can a biomechanical expert witness quantify forces relevant to claimed injuries?
A biomechanical expert witness quantifies forces relevant to claimed injuries using physics-based calculations, motion analysis, medical records, and validated biomechanical models.
How does a biomechanical expert witness evaluate consistency between impact data and injury patterns?
A biomechanical expert witness compares impact forces, directions, and durations from crash data with medical records and known injury tolerance thresholds to assess consistency.
What training and credentials should a biomechanical expert witness possess for litigation support?
A biomechanical expert witness should have an advanced biomechanics degree, relevant research and clinical experience, peer‑reviewed publications, and prior litigation support testimony.
