He completed his residency training in general surgery and his fellowship training in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Miami. He also concluded a NIH research training fellowship at the University of Texas. He is a fellow at the American College of Surgeons and a member of various other professional associations, including the American Burn Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
