Al Barqawi, MD, FRCS, is an Associate clinical Professor and Lecturer in the Division of Urology at University of Colorado School of medicine. Dr. Barqawi also serves as Director of Research in the Section of Urologic Oncology. He has expertise in urologic oncology and general Urology primarily in prostate disease, early detection, novel imaging and treatment applications and epidemiology. He is interested in men’s health research, particularly sexual function and testosterone effect on general health. He also acts as the Principal Investigator for several national research projects. He pioneered 3D imaging of the prostate gland and focal targeted therapy for prostate cancer. He performed the first focal interstitial laser therapy of the prostate in the US. She is currently a nurse practitioner in bariatric surgery as well as the bariatric surgery coordinator at a major medical center specializing in weight management. He received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. She formerly served as a shift physician for Omaha EMS and currently serves as an professor in the department of general surgery, trauma, critical care and emergency surgery at a university in Nebraska. Clinically, she serves as the director of emergency general surgery, trauma and critical care at a university-affiliated medical center.
