He earned his BA cum laude from Carleton University, his LLB summa cum laude from the Université de Sherbrooke, and his LLM from Yale Law School. Additionally, he was Columbia University's Law and Economics Fellow in 1981. Before coming to the US and entering academia, he served as a law clerk for a member of Canada's Supreme Court. Currently, he is a Professor of Law at a VA university where he teaches Torts, Legal Ethics, Products Liability, and Jurisprudence. His research on torts and ethics issues is nationally known has published numerous books, chapters, and articles on legal ethics. Notably, he is co-author of two editions of West's Legal Ethics in a Nutshell and is sole author of two editions of West's Products Liability hornbook.
