Factory Workers Develop Mesothelioma From Asbestos Conditions

Case Overview

Many of these workers developed lung complications, including mesothelioma and lung cancer. It was alleged that the facility in question was not compliant with industry standards for industrial hygiene, thus causing injuries to the plaintiffs. A certified industrial hygienist was sought to investigate whether the facility’s asbestos levels contributed to the plaintiffs’ injuries.

Questions to the Agriculture expert and their responses

Q1

Please explain your experience and familiarity with asbestos-related matters.

I have 17+ years of experience in occupational safety and health as a certified industrial hygienist and certified safety professional. I hold an M.P.H. in environmental and occupational health, and I have taken additional asbestos-related courses in building inspection, management planning, and contractor supervision. I also have served as an expert witness for an asbestos case that involved a fire in an apartment complex. I enforced the Division of Occupational Safety and Health's asbestos regulations for my state for 7+ years. For 8+ years, I evaluated and provided oversight for various asbestos abatement projects for the U.S. Navy. During my employment with the Navy, I also oversaw an asbestos and fiber identification and counting lab. I am available to review the facts of the case as well as to determine potential exposure. I can also discuss specific abatement techniques. During my tenure with the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, I represented the state before the appeals board against employers who violated occupational safety and health regulations, including those involving asbestos.
