Expert Qualifications

The impact of her work is acknowledged through NIH and CDC funding to test sleep assessment and interventions, engagement in national work to establish and disseminate practice guidelines, influential publications, and national presentations. She assumes participation on interprofesisonal committees for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Sleep Research Society, and Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine that promote evidence-based and best practices for sleep. Her influence in the scientific community is demonstrated through leadership and membership on six national expert/advisory panels sponsored by the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN), CMS e-Measures Working Group, and industry (e.g., Medtronic and Hospira) to promulgate recommendations for safe and effective technology-supported pain care. She consults in hospitals throughout the country and deliver national presentations to advise nurses on safe monitoring practices for patients with obstructive sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing receiving opioids. She conducted two practice analysis studies for ASPMN to evaluate the impact of the ASPMN expert consensus report on opioid monitoring practices, and subsequently spearheaded publications (JONA, 2016; Worldviews on Evidence-based Nursing, 2014) to inform nursing practice and executive leaders of system- and patient care-level required to ensure patient safety. This highly qualified expert has been practicing for over 30 years. She completed a Bachelors in Nursing from State University of New York, a Masters in Nursing from the University of Rochester, and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Rochester. She pursued two fellowships: T32 National Institute on Aging from the University of Rochester and Neuroimaging/Cognitive Science from the University of Rochester respectively. She is well known and respected in her field. She has co-authored a book on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, published 15 journal articles in addition to holding several lectures and presentation. She was awarded with the Academy of Sleep Medicine Young Investigator Award for Research. She has conducted post-doctoral work at the University of Rochester in the field of cognitive sciences and neuroimaging. In addition, she underwent hands on training in functional imaging procedures and analysis. She is currently serving as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of Sleep Medicine as well as mentoring PhD Students at a major university.
