He completed his medical training in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States, earning his MBChB from the University of Edinburgh, his MRCP and FRCP from the Royal College of Physicians of London, his PGCE from the University of Brighton. He subsequently completed an general surgery and internal medicine internship at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, an emergency medicine residency at Birmingham University Hospital and an internal medicine residency at Birmingham Heartlands Hospitals, specializing in endocrinology, infectious diseases, respiratory medicine, geriatric medicine, cardiology, and gastroenterology, and a 5-year endocrinology, diabetes, and internal medicine fellowship with the Joint Royal College of Physicians. This expert is currently board-certified in internal medicine with a subspecialty in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. He is highly involved in research, having authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and spoken as an invited lecturer at several diabetes conferences. He has formerly served as an associate professor of endocrinology and the director of the diabetes program and weight control program at the University of Arkansas.
