Roofing Expert Witnesses

This expert specializes in all aspects of the roofing industry -- he is a registered professional engineer (CA, NV, MN), a registered roof consultant, a well-published author on a variety of roofing issues, and a distinguished fellow of the Roof Consultants Institute. This expert holds a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and has spent more than 30 years investigating, designing, and providing consulting services regarding roof and waterproofing systems. He is a member of the Board of Directors for both the Cool Roof Rating Council and the Special Interest Group for Dynamic Evaluation of Roofing Systems. This expert is the President of Technical Roof Services where he provides a full range of roof, waterproofing, building envelope, and solar PV consulting services including condition evaluations, failure investigations, defect investigations, construction documentation, condensation analysis (hygrothermal modeling), surveys for wet insulation, and construction observations. This expert is a well known speaker on roof technology.

This expert has more than 32 years of experience in the asphalt roofing manufacturing industry. He is a certified Lean Trainer and a certified Six Sigma Champion. While at Owens Corning, he spent 20 years as a plant manager for 3 separate asphalt roofing facilities, 8 years as a production manager, and 5 years in various supervisory and support roles. He also served on a product development and design team that specialized in high wind and impact resistant shingles. While at Owens Corning, this expert was a six sigma champion and continuously worked on process standardization in various shingle plants. He has a great deal of experience working with raw material suppliers to reduce variation in their product/process in order to achieve finished product consistency and performance, and was very involved with process monitoring design to assure finished product specification compliance.

This expert earned his BS in Management Science from Virginia Tech and Executive Graduate Program College of Insurance. This expert also has a number of certifications including certification as a Certified Builders Insurance Agent, certification by the College of Insurance, and certification by the National Safety Council. He is licensed as a Property and Casualty Agent and a Life and Health Agent in North Carolina. In addition, he is the Vice Chairman of the Safety Council of North Carolina. Formerly, this expert has held several vice president positions at various insurance companies, and he is currently the Vice President of Risk Management for a large roofing contractor.

This expert has over 30 years of experience in the roofing and building enclosure industry. He earned his AAS in civil engineering technology from Hawkeye Institute of Technology before earning his BA in computer science and business administration from Coe College. He is licensed as a professional engineer in 4 states and is a registered roof consultant and exterior wall consultant. He is active in his field as a member of ASTM International, the Roof Consultants Institute, and the Building Enclosure Council, and as an author of several articles on roofing and building codes. He formerly served as a design engineer and project manager for Shive-Hattery Engineers and Architects, the office manager for VJ Engineer, and a project engineer with Brown Engineering, where he was responsible for building envelope and roofing consulting projects. Currently, this expert serves as a project engineer for facilities at a roofing engineering consulting firm based in Iowa.
