He received his BS in metallurgical engineering and materials science from Carnegie Mellon University before earning his MD from the University of Colorado. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and his fellowship in renal diseases and hypertension at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
