Dr. William Anthony Rutala has over 40 years of experience in the field of Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Control. He earned his BS from Rutgers University and his MS in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He also earned his MPH and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Formerly, this expert held roles as a Research Professor of Medicine in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, as the Director of Hospital Epidemiology and Employee Health at the University of North Carolina Hospital, and as the Director of the Hospital Epidemiology and Occupational Health and Safety Program at the University of North Carolina Hospital. Currently, he is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is also the Director of the Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology (SPICE) at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
