Dr. Peter Akpunonu, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, FACMT

Dr. Peter S. Akpunonu has specialized experience in the fields of Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. They earned their BS in Biology and Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University and their MD from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. After completing their residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Kansas Hospital, they went on to complete a fellowship in Medical Toxicology at Oregon Health and Science University. Today, the expert holds certifications in Addiction Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Emergency Medicine. Previously, they held roles as an Assistant Professor and Co-Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and Associate Medical Director of the Kentucky Poison Control Center at Norton Children's Hospital. Currently, they work as a Medical Director of Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine and Medical Director of Toxicology Consult Service at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
