From 1999 to 2021, he also served as the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Standford University School of Medicine. He currently serves as an Anesthesiologist at the Stanford University Medical Center, as a Member of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, and as a Richard K. and Erika N. Richards Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
