He earned his MBBS from the National University of Sciences and Technology in Pakistan and completed his residency in internal medicine at Saint Joseph Hospital affiliated with the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his first fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Chicago and his second fellowship in interventional pain medicine at the University of Utah. He is triple-board certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and pain medicine. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine. He previously served as an assistant professor of medicine and as the co-director of the buprenorphine addiction clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
