About Dr. Jean Houghton, MD, PhD

This expert has over 25 years of experience in the field of gastroenterology. She earned her BA in biology from Rutgers University, before earning both her MD and her PhD in microbiology and genetics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She then completed a residency in internal medicine and three fellowships in gastroenterology, gastroenterology research, microbiology, and molecular genetics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. Today, this expert is board certified in gastroenterology and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Microbiology, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association. She is very active in academia, having been the recipient of millions of dollars worth of research grants and has published over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles. Previously, she was an attending gastroenterologist at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, an assistant professor of gastroenterology, microbiology, and molecular genetics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and an assistant professor of gastroenterology, microbiology, and molecular genetics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Currently, she serves as a professor of gastroenterology at a major medical school in Massachusetts.
